Godwatt come from Italy and they’ve released their third effort (succeeding 2013’s ”Senza Redenzione” and 2015’s ”MMXVXMM’ which had Italian lyrics) after the release of ”The Hard Ride Of Mr. Slumber” (2008), ”The Rough Sessions” (2012) and the 2007 demo, which had English lyrics this time. The name of the band during those times was Godwatt Redemption. As you understand, the musical triad (Moris Fosco – guitar and vocals, Mauro Passeri – bass and Andrea Vozza -drums) decided to change in a way its name along with the language they would perform, trying this way to create a singularity in the field of stoner / doom. Musically speaking, the band’s doing fine, showing obvious influences from Black Sabbath (Ozzy era), something that doesn’t strike us a weird though, as the path they’ve chosen to walk through has these demands – the band baptized their style as Heavy Super Rock. The decision of using their mother tongue seems to be a conscious decision and fully respected. But logically in the back of their minds they will wait for the reaction of the crowd outside Italy, since the Italian language is objectively difficult to be processed in the field of Rock and Metal. The record lacks that “hit” track that will raise the average quality of the album, nevertheless, it makes me rhythmically shake my head a little listening to the Heavy Rock riffs that come and go.
Masterpiece? No.
Fun? Yes!
