Harm – Devil (Re-Release)

Genre: Groove/Thrash
Country: Norway
Label: Battlegod Productions
Year: 2015

Here we’re dealing with an anniversary release that celebrates the 10 years of the release of “Devil”. You’ll think… is it that important to be celebrated? The genre’s enthusiasts would probably have checked the firsts two albums of the Norwegians (“Devil” 2006 & “Demonic Alliance” 2011), so they’ll know what they’ll listen to here. The entire release becomes even more tempting if you take into consideration that, apart from the good aesthetics of the new cover, in the second bonus disc, you will find the two demos released in 2004 plus the unreleased before demo from 1998. This way, the overall duration of the double CD reaches the 80 minutes and makes it even more satisfying. Musically speaking the record moves toward the American Thrash paths, with enough similarities with the later era of Exodus and Testament, onwards 1999. Moreover, the European elements are present and follow the groove of The Haunted, while the underlying melody of the Swedish Death Metal is here, as well. The vocals are made (or if you prefer plucked) for (or from) the first album of The Haunted, while there are bursts of riffs and merciless headbanging. The drums’ sound and production are a little bit teased, compared to the original version, always for the better. In the end, those who let Harm slip through your fingers in 2006, you now have the opportunity to obtain a more elegant version of the album, with improved sound. It’s a good record, not a monument of the genre, but it’s worth investing in it, if you are avowed fans of the aforementioned bands.
