The cd is in the disc player and you press “play”. What you listen to at first is an atmospheric intro with militaristic drums. At that point, you are like “ok, let’s see how it goes”, and at that point, at 1:50 of “Asuric being” it’s like the volume suddenly goes up, drums get faster and the voice that originates from a deep chasm becomes perceptible. That much is of course expected from Hate, they didn’t form up yesterday and they certainly don’t need an introduction. After all, with 25 years of existence and 10 full length albums, every death metal fan has, at least, heard of them. What does “Tremendum” have to offer to the death metal genre in 2017? Fast and loud drums? Of course. Brutal death metal vocals? I don’t even have to answer that question, hell yeah! Fast guitars? Yes, but not all the time. On the contrary, just like they do with their drums, speed goes up and downin a suitable way thus making the album interesting instead of boring. All in all, it is a decent release but that’s just it. They don’t re-discover the wheel or fire and it is not “an album of the year” material. Hate play the way they know all these years, they evolve it (even if it’s just a little bit) and release a good album with elements from their previous releases while looking at the future and their further music progress.
