Heads For The Dead – Never Ending Night Of Terror

Genre: Death Metal
Country: Sweden / Germany / United Kingdom / United States
Label: Pulverised Records
Year: 2025

Heads For The Dead’s eagerly anticipated fourth album, Never Ending Night Of Terror, marks a thrilling new chapter for the band since their 2023 EP In The Absence Of Faith. This release also continues their partnership with Pulverised Records, their label since 2023.

Vocalist Ralf Hauber, known from Revel In Flesh and Rotpit, describes the album as an “overall more extreme” experience, amplifying the band’s signature sound in every aspect. The album’s ten tracks carry a focused, intense cinematic vibe inspired by cult slasher classics such as David Cronenberg’s Videodrome, Roman Polanski’s Repulsion, the original Friday the 13th, Stuart Gordon’s The Beyond and Re-Animator, and others like Motel Hell and City Of The Dead. This thematic core of revenge, violence, and pervasive fear permeates both lyrics and music.

Multi-instrumentalist Jonny Petterson composed the entire album, drawing heavy influence from iconic horror soundtracks and the ominous tones of Necrophagia. Hauber wrote all the lyrics, weaving the essence of these horror films with additional fictional elements to deepen the storytelling. The current line-up, solid since 2022, features Matt Moliti from Sentient Horror on lead guitar and introduces Evan Daniele from Sentient Horror and Dead and Dripping on drums.

Italian artist Solo Macello, a self-professed horror movie fanatic with credits including Pentagram and Zakk Sabbath, crafted the album artwork for the first time. The imagery reflects both Jonny and Ralf’s vision, with the main slasher figure’s mask supposedly inspired by an actual horror mask in Jonny’s living room. This eerie design cleverly nods to Sodom’s mascot, presenting an ominous “evil-twin” figure.

Adding tribute to horror’s legacy, the band includes an original track paying homage to Goblin, the Italian prog rock legends behind the Suspiria soundtrack. Attentive listeners may catch subtle references to the film’s haunting main theme woven into the music.

The album delivers around 41 minutes of intense, brutal, and aggressive death metal across ten tracks, including a tribute to the Italian horror film Suspiria. The album combines heavy, ferocious riffs with dark synths and haunting melodies, creating a macabre and terrifying atmosphere that evokes classic horror motifs and films.

The vocal delivery is guttural and raw, matched by intense drumming and sharp guitar work. The horror elements are not just thematic but are deeply embedded in the music, giving the album distinct personality and immersion. Songs like the title track “Never Ending Night of Terror” stand out with their off-kilter, dark atmospheric qualities, and the band skillfully balances brutality with melodic hooks and passages that enhance the eerie vibe.

Never Ending Night Of Terror is a refined evolution for Heads for the Dead, showcasing their growth and niche in blending Swedish-style death metal with horror cinema influences. It is highly recommended for fans of death metal that crave a blend of aggression, atmosphere, and cinematic horror flair. The album successfully merges the raw power of death metal with a sinister, horror-inspired narrative, making it a memorable and impactful release in the genre.
