Some few may discovered them since their early days back in 1977 in Edinburgh. Some learned them through their brilliant debut “The Nightcomers” (originally released in 1981) (no necessarily from day one of its release of course, but sometime in their life), or through their best known song “The Small Hours”, which Metallica covered in 1987 and it was released on their “The $5.98 E.P. – Garage Days Re-Revisited EP”, and reappeared on their 1998 compilation album “Garage Inc.”. Many death metal fans may have heard about Six Feet Under’s cover on the song “Death or Glory” from “The Nightcomers” album on their 1997 “Warpath” record. Yet everyone and I mean everyone has once in his/her lifetime sung the ultimate hymn of our music the one and only “Heavy Metal Mania”, which Gamma Ray covered the song “Heavy Metal Mania” on their 1996 live album Alive ’95 (There was also a studio version released as a bonus song with their 1995 album “Land of the Free”, while in 2013, Gamma Ray recorded the song “Death or Glory” for their EP “Master of Confusion”). It was cut by Phoenix Record & Filmworks with “Love’s Power” and “Only as Young as You Feel” as B’ side tracks which are pure rockers, catchy with an AC/DC aura. Holocaust’s line-up in 1980 was Paul Collins on drums, John Mortimer on guitars, Robin Begg (R.I.P.) on bass, Ed Dudley on guitars and Gary Lettice on vocals duties. In a year in which Iron Maiden (s/t), Diamond Head (“On Through The Night”) and Angelwitch (s/t) release their debut albums, Witchfynde “Give ‘Em Hell” and “Stagefright”, White Spirit (s/t), Samson “Head On”, Quartz “Stand Up And Fight”, Girlschool “Demolition”, Tygers of Pan Tang “Wildcat”…it seems the list featuring many more excellent albums, 7” and 12” singles and live recordings is endless…and also have to mention last but not least Saxon deliver “Wheels Of Steel” and “Strong Arm of the Law”, you must have big balls in order to place your 12” single among the aforementioned legendary albums!!! Thank you very very much Mr. Mortimer for this gem…

Inside the power cage
I can feel the music of my age
It’s paranoid… first degree
Tellin’ me that I’m not free
I’ve got Heavy Metal music in my blood
And I’d like to give it to you if I could
As I lie in the shroud of darkness
The wings of light remove the veil
It’s Heavy, Heavy, Heavy
Heavy Metal Mania all the way
Rock ‘n roll… far too slow
So the adrenaline just doesn’t flow
Where is the power, where is the glory?
Heavy Metal is my story
