Country: Sweden
Label: Nuclear Blast Records
Year: 2016

In Flames have conquered their place in extreme sound’s audience consciousness through hard work, stability, great albums and definitely strong performances across the world’s stages. “Sounds from the Heart of Gothenburg” is the band’s 3rd live release (“The Tokyo Showdown – Live in Japan 2000” -2001- & “Used & Abused – In Live We Trust” -2005-, the previous ones), that is here to celebrate their new contract with Nuclear Blast. This recording is also here to keep their fans excited until the release of their next studio album later this year. So this is more than just a warm welcome-back from their once again (new) label, is also a kind of best – of release that will satisfy (probably) everyone (fans-band-label). The 2cd album is comprised of 20 tracks and reaches almost 90 minutes in length, certainly a substantial release that will also be available on DVD, covering an era from their 1999 “Colony” until the 2014’s “Siren Charms”. In Flames have suffered lineup changes and criticism for their music choices when they decide to look on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean as their sound changed dramatically after 2002 up to now, into a more mainstream/melodic one, but they not only survived, not only won, they triumphant. They answered the challenge, and their (back then) new beginning has been characterized from top notch compositions that have passed the hard test of time. To be really honest even though the track listing of “Sounds from the Heart of Gothenburg” is awesome still if it could have more songs from “Come Clarity” this release would have been even greater and semantically would have been more precise of imprinting the band’s present status. Still the performance is outstanding, the audience seems to spend the time of their lives and participate with screams and singing along and everything seems so nice for the Swedes in this restart of their career. “Sounds from the Heart of Gothenburg” marks the end of an era with the best possible way for In Flames. The best is yet to come, hopefully…
