Inner Axis is a German Heavy Metal band that also features in its lineup Greek guitarist Zacharias Drosos. Between the years 1999 – 2008, under the moniker Midgard they did not release any completed work. They renamed themselves Inner Axis and began their recording career although not with much consistency. “Midnight Forces” is their third album, 7 years after the previous “We Live by the Steel”. If we think of the German Heavy/Power scene, we are very close to what we are dealing here with, with the name of Primal Fear coming to mind first.
There is nothing groundbreaking about Inner Axis’ music but yet they present a solid set of compositions with the likes of “Evil Dead” and “Spartan War – Cry” standing out a little more. There is also some pretty interesting guitar ideas scattered throughout that the clean production brings out as well. “Midnight Forces” although is not a concept album, has lyrical references to series and movies such as “Cobra Kai”, “The Army of Darkness”, “300” and “Master and Commander”. It should also be said that the songs “Midnight Hunter” and “Steelbladed Avenger” were first released as singles in 2021. Any fans looking a little more into the Heavy Metal scene underground, will find plenty of interesting things in Inner Axis’ work this year.
