Insanity Reigns Supreme (IRS) formed in 1989, when albums like “Altars of Madness” (Morbid Angel), “Symphonies of Sickness” (Carcass) and the first demo of Cannibal Corpse were released. Also, this was the period when the genre Death-Doom metal made its first steps.

“Unorthodox” is IRS’s last album and it’s the logical continuity of “Occultus Insanus Damnatus”. “Unorthodox” is one of the kind, but with some more death elements in comparison with the previous recordings. Of course, doom metal is the main “road” of this album but they enrich it with characteristics which come from fast and slow sessions of death music and maybe a little bit of black injections. This release is «doomed» from beyond, with slow parts that are calling from the deepest dungeons of hell.

“Unorthodox” contains two “intermissions”; the first one is an instrumental track, full of piano, reminding us composition of classical music but under the sign of doom-evil spirit, and the second one is just the terrific female vocals. Male vocals are massiveness, are deep enough, leading us to those of early ‘90s. Some “paintings” of female vocals draw tracks with the appropriate atmospheric sense. All these kind of vocals express very well the haunting lyrics which in combination with the album’s stunning artwork of Greek artist Seth Siro Anton (Septic Flesh) expose the beast that lives inside all of us.

Generally speaking, there are no overly things and playing. These guys know how to play and what to offer to this kind of music. They combine quite successfully the feelings and atmosphere of ’90 with the way of today’s thinking. “Never stop guys, just continue with your professional work!”

RECOMMENDED SONGS: “Throne of One”, “By the Blood of the Beast”, “Opposer”, “Satanas Rex Inferis” and “Serpent ov Fire”.
