Black Trip is a late 70’s/early 80’s inspired hard rock/heavy metal band with a quiet an impressive line – up which this month re-releases its debut entitled “Goin’ Under”. Great opportunity to speak with the so talented singer Joseph Tholl (also in Enforcer, CC Company & Corrupt).

Good evening Joseph, congratulations for your new album, it’s just great. But why so late, I mean why a band that started as an idea at 2003, only comes up with their first full length album ten years after? Thank you for your good words. Listen, basically the founding of Black Trip was in the mind of Peter Stjarnvind (Entombed,Merciless,Nifelheim) who all these years ago had already wrote many demos in that music direction. We met at a music Festival in Germany, and after some discussions it just happened.

The album was released via Threeman Records and now re-released via SPV. Is there any interesting story behind this change? I wouldn’t call it a change. And that’s because we still are part of the Threeman Records for the distribution and the sales of the record in Scandinavian countries, but SPV helps us with the album in the rest European countries.

The sound of “Goin Under” seems to me too “old-school”! Is it 100% analogue recording? Would you please tell us something about the gear you used? No it’s not 100% analogue, and of course we used several digital parts. For the recording we used Protools but all of the effects were analogue.

It might be too soon, but are there any plans for the next album? Yes for sure. Last album was recorded back at 2012, so we are working on new songs, and I would say that I have many ideas on my mind.

With you main band, Enforcer, you covered Nagazaki’s “You can Be” that was well received and loved by your fans. Should we expect something similar from Black Trip? No, no we prefer to work on our own compositions. In fact these days we record some new stuff, and we have among our immediate plans to do a split record with another Scandinavian band.

Still I have to tell you that the chief editor of Invader, asked me to suggest to you to try and do a cover of “Ristat I Sten” from Onyx (either with Black Trip or Enforcer), cause he believes that fits in your voice and the way you sing perfectly. Thank him for the suggestion, it is indeed a very nice song, I’ll keep it in my mind!

Not long ago you performed live with Black Trip in our country. Are you satisfied from Greek audience and how they respond? Oh man it was fantastic, and I knew it from the beginning because I’ve played many times with Enforcer in your country, and the audience was always passionate and fanatic. From the very first moment in Greece until the last, everything was perfect man!

Who are the 5 top N.W.O.B.H.M.and the top 5 F.W.O.S.H.M. releases (not only albums but also 7” and 12”)? Oh man! That’s a tough question for me to answer! Even if I choose 5 now, tomorrow I might tell you 5 others and so on etc. etc.

What’s your personal music plans for the future? At this moment am very busy with the upcoming albums of Enforcer and Black Trip. We also have planned to play in many summer festivals with Black Trip, and with Enforcer I have to remind you that in a few days we come to Greece for a tour!

Thank you very much for this interview, will see you soon up close, in one of the upcoming lives of Enforcer here in Greece!
