Interview with Overpain, a band from the core of the hardcore scene in Thessaloniki, which is about to release its next album. Take a glimpse at the interview below!

Hey, there! Tell as a few words about Overpain. Give us a small biography.

Overpain is a hardcore band from Thessaloniki, Greece, and was officially founded in 2007. No need to say anything else.

You are part of a scene that grows stronger as time passes, especially in Thessaloniki, creating this way a tight core. How do you feel about it? What do you think of the local scene?

The scene grows but not stronger. What can I gain from it when some people don’t get the gist and vital sense or even the significance of this hook – up and even passes that state of mind to the next person approaching the scene? You lose track after a while. Hardcore is misjudged and no-clue-attitudes have the first plea. All this is my point of view, just to be clear.

Hardcore has always been based on teamwork. The tighter the bond between people, the stronger the hardcore scene is. This this the case here? Does the crowd always support or whenever they remember?

Everything chains up with what I said earlier; support what? What cannot be felt? What cannot represent them? What they don’t know and don’t want to learn? What they cannot understand? This should be felt like home and the members of it, your family, helpin’ you when you get astray and you fixin’ it when something is trying to tear it down…

You’ve recently released new songs for the upcoming record “Lifeweight”, if I am not mistaken, under the titles “Ignition” and “Purge”. Did the tracks have the response you expected?

Generally, we do not expect a response…  If one or two people gained something from these pieces, we are pleased…

“Purge” was recently released in a compilation via Headshot Bookings. How did it happen?

I saw that Headshot was looking for bands; we contacted them and the rest is history.

Did it take you a lot of time to record your new material? Did you encounter any problems during the production?

On the contrary, it took us a month and a half to complete the recordings. Nothing like the case of its predecessor “Underrated / Overhated”. No problem!

Make a reference to the credits of your new project (studio, mixing, master, etc.).

Everything happened in Valve Studioz in Thessaloniki.

When should we expect your new album?

We think sometime before May, but you never know.

Did you move on the same hardcore trails or are there any surprises?

Same phase, more or less; everything constantly matures. Now what has changed … just listen to both new and old material and see for yourselves.

Have you any thoughts about releasing an official music video for one of your new songs?

Thoughts and ideas come and go. When, where and how they come into physical form… we’ll see it in the future.

Are there any chances for new live shows, either in our city or elsewhere?

The first that comes to mind is the release show in Thessaloniki, which will be prepared anytime now… Later we’ll try to book gigs abroad, wherever we can.

Lyrically speaking, for the most part of your tracks, you express hidden bitterness, anger and the general rottenness of the world and people. The inspiration comes from personal experience, from you’ve made discussions, from experience you’ve had all together as a band …?

Inspiration and lyrics comes with all this dirt around you; no pressure on changes even on a personal level, this annoys you more. Bitterness comes and sticks with you the moment you realize the rottenness you experience every day, you or the one beside you… Others naturally don’t care at all, others don’t know that they don’t know, others are getting stronger and others just keep sinking and sinking in fathomless depths. In most cases you don’t need to see or hear… just to understand. Our lyrics are trying to give you a dose of reality, as we see it and to be able to build character, cope and then rearrange this infected system.

The last word is yours. What would you like to say to those who support you and by extension the readers of Metal Invader?

Thanks to whoever gave some of his time to read this interview and to understand some things… Thanks to Metal Invader for the interview. Take care!
