The Athenians Saboter released the very good ‘Mankind is Damned’, their first full-length after their self-titled EP and we really needed to have a chat with Antonis (vocals) to clear a few things for us. Shouldn’t we?

Can we have a short bio of the band for those that don’t know you?

Saboter were formed in 2014 by Nikos Markoutsakis and myself in the purpose to move in a classic heavy sound. Then Vangelis Felonis and Christopher Tsakiropoulos joined the band, all former members of Overkast. In 2015 we released the self-titled EP via the German Witches Brew. In 2016 George Kannelopoulos (ex-Mentally Defiled) acceded in Saboter and in July we released our first album entitled ‘Mankind is Damned’ again via the German Witches Brew.

Mankind is Damned… You get good reviews, right?

Well, people seem to react with enthusiasm and we get really great reviews up to now and especially from abroad.

I need information on you new work. Who composed the songs, where did you and of course what you ate during the sessions?

‘Mandkind is Damned’ came to designate the musical style which Saboter will follow and to set the band’s final identity. A concept album with a single story which unfolds a totalitarian regime from the future which does not seem so far away. The composition was undertook by the guitar duo and myself. We only ate cheakpees with rice and beets.

This is the second work you release with the German Witches Brew. What do you think about your collaboration?

Our collaboration with Witches Brew despite the minor difficulties presented is great.

Influences. You sound like a European band with 90’s american metal influences. Am I right? Is it something else? Speak up!

Our most basic influences are based in the European heavy metal though there are moments that we approach the american sound mostly on the album’s thrash touches.

How do you see the Greek scene?

It’s quite strong and with lots of remarkable and powerful bands that are definitely showing some teeth to any similar release abroad.

Which would be the ideal live gig for Saboter? What would have changed in your live performance if you had the chance to make a big show?

We would definitely like to play alongside with lots of our favourite bands which made us love heavy metal that would be the ideal. Now regarding the show, we wouldn’t change a thing, it would be relentless and provocative, as it is already and will be in every live.

Which bands would you choose for the ultimate festival of all times?

Early-Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, King Diamond, Exciter, Venom, Motorhead, Piledriver, Nasty Savage, early-Megadeth, early-Metallica.

What should we expect for Saboter in the future?

Live shows, home and away and a brand new album in 2017.

The epilogue is yours.

Thanx for this interview.
