Iron Lamb originally formed in 2009 out of the ashes of renowned bands such as Repugnant, General Surgery, Dismember and Bombstrike. Probably following the trend of members of extreme metal bands forming heavy metal/hard rock bands and projects like Audrey Horne or The Dagger. Iron Lamb now have a new line-up consisting of Daniel Bragman (vocals), Johan Wallin (guitars), Daniel Ekeroth (bass), Jens Bäckelin (guitars) and Thomas Daun (drums), and with this line up recorded their sophomore release entitled ‘Fool’s Gold’. Their punk metal meets rock ‘n roll groovy sound hasn’t changed a bit since their debut but there is a certain difference though. The raw filthy heavily inspired by Motorhead with the characteristic Lemmy-esque vocals is here again (‘One Way Track’ & ‘Smile Now Cry Later’ the 2 opening killer tracks prove this while fans of ‘Overkill’ album will love ‘Feed The Fire’) but the song writing has grown and the compositions are much better. It is not only the gothic “Leave Me Be” featuring the (since 2002) neofolk singer Rob Coffinshaker (and mostly known as Gehennah’s founding member), that tries something beyond the speed/punk/rebel/rock ‘n ‘roll previous attempts from the band though. ‘Mockingbird’ has its own personality, ‘Backstabbers’ could easily be a pure speed metal anthem and ‘Rip It Up’ guitar speaking could be a Velvet Revolver song.
To make a long story short ‘Fool’s Gold’ is a really cool album that whoever buys it will hear it again and again finding every time as sharp & entertaining as he/she found it the first time.
