Amidst the avalanche of reissues of rare discs or unreleased demo material from bands of the 80s, there are pieces of work that stand out and truly deserve to be released. Don’t get me wrong, for historical reasons, it is worth for almost everything to be released in a CD format; it’s like keeping record of the past and for that matter even the substandard works are a part of the metal history and assisted into making hard music reach enormous sizes in the ’80s. Some works were so good and yet so unknown to the crowd that are deemed necessary to be reissued. Such is the case of “To the point!” by Ironhawk. The historical scene of Illinois gave us huge bands (see. Trouble, Paradoxx, Decoy Paris, Tyrant’s Reign etc.,) but never got the publicity it deserved. California and New York had the biggest piece of the pie, but Illinois and Texas had great bands, as well. Ironhawk, with their just one release, are placed without a doubt into the lot of great underground bands of the scene. “To the point!”, beyond its rarity (it is rarest than a vegetable soup in a souvlaki menu) is one of the best releases of private US Metal. Yes, it’s that good. Many of the self – funded 12″ EPs (ie Extended Plays, with usually four songs) had one or two great tracks, a more mainstream one and one ballad. Here we have 4 tracks and all 4 of them are astonishingly exceptional. I’m not exaggerating, for me that’s one of the most awesome works, far more superior to other records of the era that became known in recent years because of their cover arts and their cult character. Musically speaking, you will find some references to NWOBHM, which is reasonable, since we’re talking about early ’80s anyway. In these four epic tracks, the band added 4 bonus tracks (3 unreleased ones, recorded live in the studio and the blazing song “More Of The Same” in demo form) making this release a must have. There’s no need to write anything further, anyone who likes’ 80s underground US Metal MUST buy it.
