Kemerovo is a city located in deep south Russia (with population around half a million); a major coal-mining centre, with important chemical plants. Kemerov is a death ’n’ roll machine based in north Greece (Serres) that manages to stand out and shine against the rust that is widespread in the whole country. The band got in touch with me some months ago and sent me the online version of their record but to be honest I didn’t pay much attention to it, until my buddy Socratis handed me a CD a week or so ago. A couple of days ago I managed to listen to it… BOOM! Kemerov is one of the freshest local bands I’ve listened to the last years. Their mix of death metal and rock ’n’ roll is incredible, throwing in equal parts of both styles. If you seek for influences, then you should know that the guys worship Entombed the same way they worship Black Sabbath, while Turbonegro and Death are striving hard for the best place in their hearts. Add a dose of Charles Bukowski (in the intro) and you have the perfect mixture! The EP includes 4 songs that you can listen to them easily due to the very good production. I will be waiting impatiently for their full length, because it seems that Kemerov have a lot of well kept secrets that they are gonna unveil sooner or later. The members of Kemerov have working experience in other bands like Sicks Daze, Freefall, Lifestock & War Device and it seems that they have all they need to become a leading force in our country’s extreme music scene.
