Whether you are thrilled or not by the shamanism inspired, polka influenced folk metalheads Korpiklaani, you can’t blame them for not delivering some great live shows. These Finns can really be so energetic and fan for everyone attending their show. To be honest this live release could have been released even earlier in their career as they have already released 9 albums, even though in only in a 14 years period. Their last studio album was a triumph as ‘Noita’ captured Korpi in great shape writing some of their catchiest and more mature compositions at the same time. ‘Live at Masters of Rock’ is their first live DVD, featuring three discs including their 2016 show at the MAR festival in Czech Republic, their 2014 set there too, and audio CDs of both shows. As all live albums, the record either marks the end of an era -or the start of a new one-, either is a celebrating release that is there to please the fans while it keeps the band’s (brand’s) name hot in the market. The band plays like there’s no tomorrow giving all it got, showing why they became a top name on the genre. The production is crystal clear and the sound is strong and solid feeling like you are right there, live in the middle of the crowd. An honest and substantial release worth the time, money for the listener and the band’s effort spent. If you are wondering if they used overdubs and changed the final result on studio, vocalist Jonne Järvelä comments, “This is our first ever DVD release, which we are very proud of. It has no backing tracks, no choirs, no samples, and all of the mistakes are included. It is just us, KORPIKLAANI, pure live rock ‘n’ roll.” I guess nobody will be surprised if listening to ‘Live at Masters of Rock’ will get you dancing no matter what!
