Launched in 2019 by its lone creator M. (starting in Olympia, Washington, then moving to Los Angeles, California), the band surged from hidden beginnings to devoted following with early demos such as Thunder Vigil And Ecstasy and celebrated albums including Heir Of Ecliptical Romanticism (2020), Submission And Slavery (2022), and Saturnian Bloodstorm (2023). M. performs every instrument and vocal duty, preserving secrecy amid nods to Immortal’s aggressive thrash phase, Sisters of Mercy gothic tones, and Dead Can Dance’s ambient depths. Lamp of Murmuur emerged as M.’s black metal channel during times of emotional exposure, with first demo cassettes moving gradually until buzz grew from packed live sets, Roadburn Festival slots, and rapid exhaustion of print runs.
Dropped in late 2025, the album clocks 53 minutes over ten songs, serving as Lamp of Murmuur’s fourth full-length and most extended release to date. It melds raw second-wave black metal aggression with experimental mist, pulling from Sólstafir-style vastness and ’70s rock leads yet holding onto a ceremonial, thick haze.
The expansive title sequence—”The Dreaming Prince in Ecstasy” Parts I-III—rises as the highlight, threading lunar rhythms, dusk climaxes through elevated melodies, and elaborate storms accented by harpsichord touches. “Hategate (The Dream Master’s Realm)” summons goth/post-punk atmospheres reminiscent of Dead Can Dance, featuring pure vocals and synth-driven swells. The neofolk finale “A Brute Angel’s Sorrow” delivers a grim, wandering epilogue suggesting paths ahead.
Thick stacks of guitars and keyboards craft a chilly, humming vibe free of clutter, poising black metal fury against tuneful twists and smart riff shifts.
