Left Cross established in 2014 and while they were very promising since day one yet they haven’t achieved commercially wider than underground circles. Their relentless live performances built their character and release after release (2015’s ‘Infernal Assault’, and 2016’s ‘Servants Of Death’ and ‘Hell Is Hell’ EPs, then 2017’s ‘Chaos Ascension’ full-length 20171 before the small pause until 2020’s ‘Prophecy of Conquest’ EP and a 2022 Promo) the Richmond, Virginia based act refined their sound but didn’t bear the heaviness or the ferocity they delivered. Now they return to unleash their sophomore full length, ‘Upon Desecrated Altars’, with a new direction: old school death metal with a heavy dose of bestial black/war metal in the veins of early Bolt Thrower (yes without the groove), printed by Profound Lore Records. Grotesque and raw atmosphere, some heavy pummeling drumming and ravening thick bass lines that create a rumbling rhythmic soudwall, feral and brutal haunting vocals that brings in mind Morbid Angel (Chris Tucker era) and extremely sharp riffs, this is everything who claims to be into death metal should look into: a state of degradation unworthy of humans and fit only for beasts. Serious effort to avoid hear like anyone else out there, or being a follower of the new school death metal bands, Left Cross’ simplicity seems so vivid for the scene, despite the lack of originality, giving some rough slamming paces without complexity, something that fits better to their more straightforward assault rather than an over technical motif. Highlights: ‘Burning Raids’, ‘The Blood Of Mars’, ‘Inexorable March’ and definitely the production by Arthur Rizk and Dan Lowndes’ (mix and mastering correspondingly).
