British Lethean is a very peculiar case of a band. They have only 2 members with James Ashbey taking over all instruments and Thumri Paavana the vocals. This line up diversifies their sonic identity in comparison with the EP ‘Hope’s Flame Burns Low’. So, this is their first complete attempt with the female vocals bringing an important change. In no case though have we here a typical ‘female fronted’ band and this record shows how general this term is. Musically, The Waters of Death is a mixture of classic, epic and doom metal. The 6 compositions are long and manifold making the listening of the record a feat rather difficult and demanding, but with every time it rewards you more and more by revealing its artistic nature. If we had to name some musical comrades those would be Atlantean Kodex, Solstice and Doomsword. However, Lethean are standing on their own since they have this special stamp that makes them stand out, there is room for melodies, as also for atmospheric parts. Music, artwork and lyrics are blended excellently and offer a rare musical trip. Ready for boarding?
