Luzifer is a side project by German speed thrashers Vulture and “Iron Shackles” is their debut full length, following the “Rise” EP in 2015 and 2018’s “Black Knight” 7” single.
The group was originally formed in the city of Hamm in 2009 by Leo Steeler (bass) and Stefan Castevet (vocals, guitar and drums).
“Iron Shackles” finds the band as a power trio as it has been joined by an additional band member on drums. Vulture’s drummer Gereon Deceiver joined Luzifer, helping also in song writing and handling backing vocals as well.
Luzifer sound old school by choice being totally inspired by NWOBHM and obscure bands of early 80’s or cult heroes hailing from Old Albion or Scandinavian shores. As they don’t care on being the most original band of the world they are heavily influenced by Quartz (probably more specific from their glorious “Satans’s Serenade’ single and its dark and obscure aesthetic and also by cult heroes Heavy Load and their Steiner than evil and Death or Glory albums.
As the recording took place in their rehearsal room at home, with producer Marco of Hellforge Studio at the helm, some would think that Luzifer don’t take their work so serious. Wrong! They don’t take their selves serious is another thing than don’t taking your music serious or not hanging fan when recording…So if you understand their ease on this band was made for and how important is for its members to spend a quality time when making music while having fun then you ‘ll get why they have two songs in the album sung in their native language -German- especially a metal version of ‘Der Goldene Reiter’ by Joachim Witt, a huge hit during the era of the Neue Deutsche Welle in the early 1980s.
Let’s be honest to each other. Luzifer don’t reinvent the wheel but damn their music is so addictive (even the versatile galloping rhythm) that probably all you fans of traditional Heavy Metal sound that invest on high quality songs, dynamic playing and emotional compositions rather than originality you’ll be amused by Vulture’s little brother…
Highlights: the opener “ Iron Shackles”, the emotional “Faltige Schwingen Über Loudun”, the Scorpions-like “Wrath Of The Sorcerers” and the closer “Attila (Blazing Hooves)”.
