“Luminiferous Aether” is the fourth full length album for the one man band Mare Cognitum, released on September 16th via I, Voidhanger Records. Jacob Buczarski, the mastermind behind Mare Cognitum has once again handled everything you listen to at this record.
What Jacob has delivered is a fully sensational – emotional music, triggering thoughts and emotions that you haven’t yet realized they exist. This record truly feels intimate, more than anything else he has released so far.
Jake has taken things one step further with this release on so many levels. Apart from the obvious personal and musical growth and the easily distinguished melioration of compositions, he has managed to improve the production quality of this effort, meaning that everything sounds even clearer and more polished than his previous releases. Elaborating on music itself, the album consists of mostly mid – paced rhythms, however this doesn’t mean that there aren’t any variations to the tempos. The guitar work is strong and at times captivating, while being embraced perfectly by the drum patterns played. The cosmic samples that are used throughout each track, add an extra terrestrial feeling to the already outer-space-atmosphere that is built. Jacob’s vocals are dominant along with the exceptional guitar work. Staying on the subject of vocals, I would like to add that it’s evident that his vocal techniques have evolved. There is a certain improvement in his general performance and rendition of the tracks. Each track lasts for more than 8 minutes, which I actually realized when I intentionally looked at the songs’ duration, therefore from my point of view, the album is easily flowing avoiding any kind of tediousness.
“Luminiferous Aether” is definitely Jake’s most complete and mature work with Mare Cognitum. It’s meticulous, well – crafted and with a more personal touch than ever. I believe that this is Jacob Buczarski’s best expression of self. He seems to have pushed himself to the limit and actually came out of this victorious. One of the genre’s best releases for this year, so those of you who still live in darkness, enlighten yourself with Mare Cognitum’s “Luminiferous Aether”.
