Are you ready to get your socks knocked off? If you’re not just say so. Because, make no mistake, what I’m about to say will definitely knock your socks off… I’m telling you, this is gonna rock your world… Ok, don’t say that I didn’t warn you. Yes, it’s a fact. Finally, a band that plays unoriginal stoner riffs with a singer who’s trying (unsuccessfully) to imitate Ozzy. Come on, be honest. You’re in shock, right?
It was about ten years ago when bands like this one, popped up like mushrooms taking advantage of the hype of that time period. The fact that these bands have been forgotten by everyone (all 7.852 of them) speaks for itself, so there’s no need for me to comment on that situation.
Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against bands that want to play the music they have grown to love through listening to the genre’s colossal bands. But there should be at least a hint of personality and talent. We’re about to enter 2015(heloooooo) and there are still bands, with Monolith being one of them, which are just playing a few pentatonic scales and call their music stoner… Seriously?
We all have listened to this kind of stuff before (waaaaaaaaay too many times), this is getting old so let’s move on. I would give this album a lower rating but the fact that whatever you play on pentatonic scales sounds more or less pleasant and (most importantly) that this is the band’s first full album, forces me to go easy on them. Anyway, I don’t see them lasting more than a couple of years if they don’t change their approach to music.
