The Morgul-knife was a short blade carried by the Witch-king of Angmar during the Third Age, and used to stab Frodo Baggins at the ancient watch-tower of Weathertop. It is unknown if there was more than one Morgul-knife, as only that used by the Witch-king is mentioned in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Elrond, however, references the blade as “a Morgul-knife”, possibly implying it to be a type of weapon. The album opener “He Who Sits Upon the Black Throne of Angmar / The Morgul Blade” tells this story pretty well…
Morgul Blade is a 4-piece from Philadelphia, PA, USA playing traditional heavy metal with a nod to second wave black metal combined with the Lore of the Great J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth and other subjects including history and folklore. “Fell Sorcery Abounds” follows 2019’s EP “Harbingers of Power and the World’s End” and it is Morgul Blade’s debut studio full length featuring 9 excellent compositions that explore the dark yet heroic world of J.R.R. Tolkien. Their Heavy Metal is obscure, sinister and epic flirting with Manilla Road, early Manowar, Bathory, 3 Inches of Blood, Brocas Helm, Dawnbringer and Atlantean Kodex with harsh vocals and dingy guitars that create a murky atmosphere.
“The Five Will Ride at Dawn”, “Oak in the Breeze” and “The Beacons Must Be lit” are monumental…
“Fell Sorcery Abounds” is already out via No Remorse Records (since November 26, 2021).
