Natvre’s – Wrath

Genre: Black Metal
Country: Greece
Label: Clean Head Productions
Year: 2016

A while ago we published Natvre’s debut in our “Voices From The Underground” section. In addition to that, we feel that this release deserves the maximum publicity by us and your own undivided attention, as this is one of the best releases in the Greek black metal scene ever. Therefore we present it with a few more words today.

Long story short, if you are a fan of the extreme sound and you haven’t heard “Natvre’s Wrath” (a play on words between the title of the band and of the album…), you’d better fix that asap – meaning: press play button on bandcamp at the bottom of the page. You will probably not find a copy at the time this text is written, as the cd was about to become sold out a few days ago. Ok, there is no chance that it will not be published again, hopefully in vinyl format as well…

Let’s speak a few words about the quality of the album now…In this album one will listen to violent and raw, still not old-fashioned black metal. It possesses the magical recipe that allows it to feature a rotten and unadorned sound and yet sounding modern and fresh. Mid tempo prevails, with some sparse blast beats breaking this status quo. The band pays a lot of attention to tempo build up, using a handful of crust riffs to achieve a very groovy outcome…I find it quite impressive how the band manages to sound both violent and fun! To put a picture in the frame, “Wrath” combines the hatefulness of early Leviathan with Darkthrone’s middle period (1999-2004) groove, together with the scent (stench actually!) that the modern French scene carries (Peste Noir mainly).

Let’s dedicate as well a few words to the artwork, which binds amazingly with the record’s concept, capturing emphatically nature’s parallel rage and despair, as it is suggested and manifested  in the “face’s” hopeless/enraged expression and the hands’ pleading position. Any questions one night hold whether Natvre’s is a studio band, have been answered (in our favor) by the announcement of the band’s (first?) live appearance in May 6th in Thessaloniki. I’m not certain if this should be considered a late 2015 release (late this year the band release “Wrath” itself only via bandcamp) or an early 2016 one (in January Clean Head offered the cd format). I will make a small coup there and assort it in 2016 so that I’ll get the chance of voting it at the end of the year (unless some kind of a miracle happens!) as one of the best releases…
