Thrash Metal revival as a term always sounded a bit funny to me. Was thrash dead and needed a revival? Did thrashers ever stop listening to thrash? I don’t think so. I don’t consider myself a thrasher; there are plenty of bands that I’ve always enjoyed but also lots that I never liked. I am not probably the right person to write a review about a thrash metal band but I was lucky that this CD is a very good one and very close to my liking. Nightbreed is not a thrash metal revival band. Their release is pure speed/thrash made by thrashers for thrashers (ok, one more mention of the word thrash and I will win some kind of competition). If you expect to listen to polished, huge sound like most of the new bands (oops forgot to write thrash), don’t even listen to it. This is raw, in your face metal, a blend of the Bay Area with the German scene that will appeal to old farts like me. Nir’s vocals are great, like a Souza’s with a Mustain-ish grin who crossed eye looks at German thrash vocalists (ok, used the word thrash once again). Guitar work is excellent, has a Whiplash aftertaste in some songs (Whiplash, a truly underrated band) and the rhythm section is flawless. To me, Nightbreed sounds like a German thrash influenced band that actually sounds more American, which is actually great because it’s actually my favorite kind of thrash (ok, now I am certain, I won the thrash-mentioning competition). Best tracks are “Satanized”, “Pandemic”, “Public Execution”, “Taste of Blood” and “Nightbreed”, but actually they all are very good. Greek thrash scene is on the rise quality-wise and competition is getting fierce, release by release. Damn, I need a beer.
