The name of this band says a lot about what to expect upon hearing their debut album. Obscurite Noir came out on the first of January 2019 and consists of 7 tracks, each of them with a story to tell. Its titles, on the verge of mysticism, recite on a simple manner the upcoming songs, with the usage of Latin figures (of course). The band’s songwriting, minimalistic and complex at the same time, seems focused on shaping a pretty intriguing atmosphere, whilst dissonant parts and chaotic blast beats give way to more melodic moments and slow-paced rhythms. Vocals, a bit muted some would argue, for me just leave more open space for the other instruments to be heard. Nihilism, as all seems and as stated by the band, are on their way to bridge the gap between the more traditional sounding black metal and the more modern version of it (if there’s such thing as a gap of course), proved to have done so in a pretty successfulmanner. The work of Vinterland and Sacramentum who paved the way starting 1996, along with lots of honorable mentions in between, helped them to put the desired twist on the final result that is this record. For me, the greatest manifestation of the band’s pessimistic sounding music are tracks 1, 4, and 7, with the first being a great introduction to what one is about to hear and the last of them a great outro that gets the message across. All of the above make it a very pleasant hearing with lots to expect in the future.
