What words could come out of your mouth when referring to these five lads and this exceptional female presence, who dare to and succeed into releasing something that controversial?? Yes, it actually is controversial! When you’ve succeeded in fusing together so many music genres (despite the common grounds between them) like rock, black / death and progressive metal in such an elaborate way, then you deliver something utterly unique. When something like this surpasses the boundaries of such clichés musical stereotypes, then yes, you twist things up. This is, my friends, the real Art that shines bright as a diamond.
Cammie Gilbert could easily get involved with soul or gospel music, as her voice quality points to such genres. Thankfully, she chose to serve our own musical path and she’s now here to offer us ethereal vocal lines, followed by guitars, bass, drums and keys that hold no restrictions. Besides, this is outright proved by the opening opus called “Winter”, a track that sends you straight to hell with its ballad form, until it actually lifts you up with its angry outbreak. And this is just the beginning, as more track such as that follow, like “Nights In White Satin” (it’s not just a cover, it’s the king of covers) originally performed by Moody Blues. Oceans managed to embrace it with their own way (they added even blast beats without messing with the song’s aesthetics!), the groovy (and somehow catchy) “Suffer The Last Bridge” and the sentimental track “… This Road”.
This release is a pleasant music labyrinth… You’ve got no clue as to where it will travel you. Its course includes weird paths, abrupt changes of feelings and mood. It’s a complete music journey through one of the most elaborate musical / artistic efforts you’ll listen to this year.
