We’ve gathered all here today to talk about the second musical work from the Englishmen OHHMS, called “Cold”, which was released just two months ago through “Holy Roar Records”.

In general what we see is a slow and heavy born straight out from the British swamp. With the right amount and good use of feedback and atmospheric guitar layers they pull you in and beat you up with strong and fuzzy riffs with “The Anchor”, a common recipe of theirs as you’ll see right down the path. And here come the vocals with well-thought and catchy vocal lines, which I always am happy to hear against strict to the rhythm vocalists, but a little out of my usual tastes I have to say, with plenty of stoner and blues influences. I’d like to hear them trying a bit of brutal vocals at times, too. Their choice to divide the album in two lengthy parts found me skeptical at first, however the extreme sound quality and good song structures made time go off pretty easily. In terms of songwriting I was not really impressed by their efforts. This only till I got in the last five minutes of “Dawn of the Swarm”, which seemed much more promising than “The Anchor” to be honest. Smooth vocals along with a sweet guitar part you find yourself hypnotized until you’re stuck forever in the swamp by maybe the best riff on the album. And later the chants come and point to the end..

In conclusion it’ll be a great listen for fans of post-sludge, but if OHHMS work more on their “last five minutes”-self we’ll remember them for a long time.
