That’s a legendary album and band! “Serpent Temptation” was originally released in 1988 under Incubus’s name (before they changed it into Opprobrium for those that don’t know) and it caused a lot of fuzz back then! This is the re-mastered version, which has just been released by Relapse Records.
I don’t know what to write about this “diamond” that for lots of metalheads is considered a classic 80s album, one of the most extreme ones of the thrash/death scene of this era. Together with Dark Angel, Possessed, Demolition Hammer (with a German touch / twist in their sound, as well) and Sepultura they were one of the fastest bands of that period. Since they had successfully mixed death with thrash metal back then, they were a band that the crowd was expecting a lot from. Unfortunately the change on the band name for legal reasons left them on ice for some time. After changing the name they released this sonic holocaust just before the 80s end.
The album had been re-released in 1996 but with different lyrics, as i can see, since they were too extreme! With song titles like: Voices from the Grave, The Battle of Armageddon, Sadistic Sinner, i think that this makes sense.
In any case, razor sharp and maniac guitar riffs, tight and well played drums with fast blasts were things that were not considered that normal. The vocals were spitting fire as well. The Howard brothers have caused a great amount of damage!
Let me close this review by saying that this is a great opportunity for those that don’t possess the album to finally add it in their collection.
