Pap Smear: Fear And Loathing 1986 Demo

At some point during 1984, Jeff Hanneman, Dave Lombardo and Suicidal Tendencies’ guitarist, Rocky George, formed a brief hardcore punk side project called “Pap Smear”. The band had many tracks and was due to start recording. It was the famous producer Rick Rubin that destroyed this project, even though he was the abettor behind Slayer’s commercial success. Hanneman was advised by Rubin to avoid mingling with this side project. In fact, here’s his quote: “Ahhhh, don’t do it, man – this is the kind of thing that breaks bands up!” and as a result, Hanneman wisely took his producer’s advice. On these grounds, the only demo recorded was this one, in 1986, in which Hanneman is on vocals and bass, Lombardo on drums and Rocky George on guitar. 10 years later, two of the demo songs, i.e. “Can’t Stand You” and “DDAMM (Drunk Drivers Against Mad Mothers)” were re-recorded and included on Slayer’s 1996 album “Undisputed Attitude”. After Hanemann’s death, a collection was released, containing both demos for an unreleased concept album by Slayer and the demo from Pap Smear, entitled “Seeds Of Horror: The Jeff Hanneman Demos 1985”, under the name of Slayer, even though it is an unofficial release.
