Powerwolf… Surely the name and their covers always reminded of cartoons, but the image and their music have nothing to do with them, hopefully. The counterweight of Sabaton, as many agree about their similarities and not unfairly, since it’s the same euro-power they’re playing. They have a standard and completely different thematology in their lyrics, the sound and the composition writing hasn’t changed at all all these years and the only difference Powerwolf have is that they follow an anti-rockstar image behind corpsepaint, paying a lot of attention to the theatrics. Apart from that, the two bands are successful and now famous in the scene of power metal, giving us dynamic and quality albums.
In their sixth album Powerwolf haven’t changed at all. The same successful recipe is followed here as well and why not to, they wanna build and put another stone to their statue instead of bringing it down. They have improved in terms of composition and execution and in his vocals Attila is truly gargantuan. Dynamic compositions with all the characteristics and their landmark elements, like the church organ, the use of latin words and phrases, pompous choruses appropriate for live shows and many bombarding riffs. Some hymns that stand out are «Dead Until Dark», «Army Of The Night», «Armata Strigoi», «Higher Than Heaven» and the best of all, «Christ and Combat». In the limited edition version there’s a second CD with covers of Judas Priest (two tracks), Running Wild, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Gary Moore, Savatage, Iron Maiden, Chroming Rose and… Amona Amarth.
