Raise Hell…Raise Hell…There’s something familiar about the name…
Looking back and doing some unearthing I remembered them. It was in the mid – end of 90’s when Scandinavia was bursting out thrash/black/retro bands that end up releasing records from Osmose, Spinefarm and bigger labels like Century Media and Nuclear Blast, making us happier most of the times with all the great albums that were storming our ears. “Holy Target”, their first album was a good one back in the day, influenced by the style of its time while “Not Dead Yet” that followed was mediocre.15 years later and 3 more albums and Raise Hell got me to listen to their music again. Written In Blood is in the vein of their known style.
Swedish thrash with sterilized good sound, polished, that sticks close to the traditional sound but enjoys more being modern, more melodic in their melodic parts and more brutal in their brutal parts than ever. “We Arise”, “The Bell of The Reaper” and “Six Feet Under” are the top moments of “Written In Blood”, which sounds swallow since you don’t get the songs that will hear over and over again while even the aggression sounds fake.
Perhaps it’s that when they sound ready to roll the engine dies, maybe it’s the numerous changes in their songs that don’t let their tracks breathe and maybe you must have it sometimes in you not trying to create it. Really I doubt that they will gain some new fans with this release when there are so many bands out there that play in this style and do it better.
For the old fans that follow them for years, lend Written In Blood an ear but don’t wait to be amazed.
