So, on Monday I decided to head to the An Club that served as a live venue that night. I was surprised to see that the rain did not prevent the fans of prog / metal scene of queuing outside the venue! The delay was certainly justified and around 21:30 – 22:00, Sixfornine climbed on stage. Bernado’s brainchild has been active for 5 or 6 years and has released two albums. At first they were tepid, as the crowd was, but the band tried its best to convey its Alternative / Prog Metal, which I have to say, was decent but has not yet formed its character and direction. An Club wasn’t yet full. However, SixforNine performed a well played and properly rehearsed setlist, even though the sound wasn’t an ally.
SixforNine passed the baton to Mother of Millions, in which George Procopiou from Poem participates, as well. I confess that I had never seen them live, but having seen Poem, I would say that are very similar in style, influences and their overall appearance. Exceptional players, all of them. Special mention should be made to their drummer, who raises their level as a band. Their sound was on their side too. Their material is quite interesting. Anyone who likes progressive metal forms enriched with modern and alternative elements should check them.
Sometime late and after all preparations were taken care of, it was time for Leprous. Admittedly, I didn’t know them. It’s been a few days since I’ve learnt about the. Progressive / alternative metal is not my thing actually. The band had a dynamic presence from the very first minute. Closed – mouthed but fully essential, Einar with his theatrical movements, won the impressions along with Kolstad’s drumkit, who was really devastating. The progressive metal they choose to play is unique and addictive. His voice reminded me of Muse and certainly comparisons with them are inevitable. The necessary chaos was caused during their “hit”, “The Price”. To my surprise, there were several fans who knew the songs and the first time I saw the crowd asking for a second encore and people not leaving the venue. It was an excellent performance by the Norwegians that will surely broaden their audience here after this gig. Well done.
