20 years after it was recorded finally it is officially released the self-titled studio album by Runaway. It was 1998 when the band shared a cd-r with these recordings exclusively on their live shows. The group was established three years earlier with ex members of also Belgians Shannah. The material we hear on this release is quite impressive and it is a fact that whoever knew the whole story behind the band and the cd-r was wondering why ’Runaway’ wasn’t printed properly earlier. Eventually this now happened. The album is well played and extremely emotional for its kind, an AOR/melodic hard rock mixture that could be easily described as a soft version of Tyketto. Dave Warlet’s voice is outstanding and has a great range as it follows the well executed guitar themes that their whole sound is based actually. Keyboards color beautifully their music in its entirety while there are moments that even pagan melodies built Runaway’s material as in “Look At yourself” for instance. The band climaxes its songs with Warlet’s characteristic choruses that everybody wants to singalong. I know that you are dying for obscure AOR releases and that you’ve talked about the cd-r several times in the past. Well now it’s time to grab it properly. We love the underground albums and this mixture of Tyketto and Boulevard sound perfect to me.
