Sarissa, this historic band from Thessaloniki, which when it played metal in 1987 half of the current Greek scene was unborn, returns after 12 years of silence to offer the successor of ‘Master of Sins’, ‘Nemesis’. Sarissa is not one of those bands that release an album every 2-3 years; they always take their time (decade). The central pole of Sarissa, Jim Selalmazidis flanked by their original amazing singer from the ‘Demo’ but also young people who have made their round, entered the studio in a good mood. As far as track executions go, they are all very high – leveled, and if you cut out one by one the instruments, they sound perfectly individually. As a whole though, there seems to be a lack of agreement on how the band members want their material to be heard. In most pieces, for example, the bass and drums sound like Exodus from ‘Tempo of the Damned’ or sometimes as Megadeth from the ‘Rust in Peace’, while the guitar playing resembles Pantera and the vocals remind us of Saxon. The production and mixing is also unjust to the final result… Of course there are amazing tracks like ‘Fallen’, ‘Fight the Devil’ or the more emotional song ‘I’m Coming Home’ where the band sounds very tight and with a common orientation. I believe that if the present lineup is kept as it is until the next album and bonds a bit more, we will listen to some even greater things!
