Shotgunz is a stoner/hard rock group from Greece and “Based On a True Story” is their debut. There are a lot of stoner elements and groovy guitars based on a southern metal approaching that brings you automatically Black Label society on your mind, but that’s where the whole connection with the American super band ends.  The whole album is in slow tempo while the vocals are very similar to the ones from the Greeks Phase Reverse. Unfortunately there’s a lack of personality in song writing as the band chose to play it safe, and all we hear is their influences. Despite the fact that you can’t avoid the description “generic” to their sound still there’s a lot talent in Shotgunz and you can hear many cool songs in the album, such as “Rock ‘N ‘ Rolla”, “Melodies to your Soul” and “Distance”. Of course the hearing of the album will be definitely much more pleasant in a metal bar while drinkin’ a couple of beers or bourbon. We don’t need to be censorious as we are dealing with their first release; still we need to hear more from the band in their next attempt. I believe they have something to prove firstly to their selves.

Surrealism : Pure psychic automatism, by which one proposes to express, either verbally, in writing, or by any other manner, the real functioning of thought. Dictation of thought in the absence of all control exercised by reason, outside of all aesthetic and moral preoccupation. Surrealism is based on the belief in the superior reality of certain forms of previously neglected associations, in the omnipotence of dream, in the disinterested play of thought. It tends to ruin once and for all other psychic mechanisms and to substitute itself for them in solving all the principal problems of life.
