Hailing from Houston Texas and crawling and rolling in its hardcore/thrash underground circles of this while being part of the “Texas Crossover Seed” movement that gave birth to beasts like Iron Age and Power Trip, Skourge began their journey almost a decade ago and took them 4 Eps and two demos before unleashing their monstrous debut full length. Filthy raw brutal and with fury their blend is like Chuck Schuldiner jamming with Power Trip and you can hear many elements that anyone that digs Merauder, No Warning, Xibalba and 90’s era Slayer will love. Their lineup features Erik Hester on bass, Carson Wilcox on drums (on Narrow Head), Chaney Lim and Jacob Duarte on guitars (also on Narrow Head) and Seth Gilmore on vocals, which is also the singer for Fugitive, the new band from Power Trip’s Blake Ibanez. Totally inspired Hardcore with beatdowns and breaks, dark Thrash elements and thick bass-lines, chunky riffs, and punchy, punk/crust motive drumming added to some raw Death metal growls and screams. This album is shocking; with most of the songs clocking in at around three minutes or less giving no time for any reaction from what hit you like a road roller or a bulldozer or something. Torrential Torment is a pure under twenty-nine minutes long excellence. There’s no match up this year for this killer. One of the best album of this season definitely.
