In a fairer world, when we would talk about melodic death metal, we would always mention Soilwork, next to In Flames and Dark Tranquility. They are not inferior to anything, neither in releases quality, nor in stability over time. It is also impressive how David Andersson and Bjorn Strid in the last years, manage to work successfully with The Night Flight Orchestra as well. It’s really good that they didn’t neglect Soilwork because of The Night Flight Orchestra. Three years have passed since the very good “Verkigheten” and the Swedes are returning with his successor. The good songs obviously exist. Good melodies, excellent technical training, impressive choruses and Strid’s voice impresses with how good it is in both clean and brutal vocals. However, it is very ambitious for the type of music they play, to record an album with 14 songs and a total duration of 65 minutes. It is certain that not all compositions can fluctuate at the same high level. Also, speaking of a subgenre of extreme sound, it is expected that such a long duration will tire the listener. Even so though, their dedicated fans will find their new favorite songs and the group will keep its name in the news. Also, regardless of the result, they should be rewarded for their stability over the years and for their hard work, especially in recent years. It is honorable for Αndersson and Stid, which do not prioritize either of the two groups. “Overgivenheten” is a good album, which however, will not excite the fans.
