Almost eight years after their debut “Endless War”, Speedrush are back with a new record. For those who don’t know the name of Speedrush, let’s inform them that the band were established in 2005 in Athens, (a period in which we had the pleasure of often seeing thrash bands being created in our country), with members who were also in other bands at the same time. Speedrush, I would say that they are sonically related to Nightbreed and this does not only concern the presence of “Nir Beer” behind the microphone but also the sound direction. But let’s see what happens specifically in the new album entitled “Mortality Division”. In general it is the natural continuation of “Endless War”. Razor sharp riffing in the veins of Destruction and Whiplash trademark sound, rhythm section featuring bass and drums ready to derail in any chance given, hooligan choruses and a characteristic voice of Nir nailing the verses balancing easily between speed and thrash. 7 compositions plus 2 instrumentals – intro, just like in their first work, on a record written by fans for fans. Of course, this does not mean that they lack professionalism or that they lack musical training. On the contrary, everything is highly professional, from the songs and the production to the amazing cover by Mario Lopez. This time, the compositions are a little longer but without losing immediacy. The positive thing about “Division Mortality” is that you listen to it and stick to your head, something that listeners have missed of all sub genres in the last years. Speedrush are amazing, the new album is a genuine killer, and I wish from now on that they will have a regular consistency on recording albums and a more frequent concert presence.
