Starlight Ritual – Rogue Angels

Genre: Heavy Metal
Country: Canada
Label: High Roller Records
Year: 2025

Rogue Angels, the sophomore album by Starlight Ritual, (the Montréal-based band was formed in 2013 with founders J.F. Bertrand and Dan Toupin) is a strong offering of traditional heavy metal infused with progressive elements and doom metal influences. Released on October 31, 2025, it delivers a powerful and epic metal experience that balances classic inspirations with a modern polished sound.

The album channels classic heavy metal bands such as Manowar, Rainbow, Running Wild, Thin Lizzy and Grim Reaper, blended together so perfectly, but it also goes beyond mere homage by incorporating progressive twists and doom-laden depth. The music is marked by heavy riffs, pounding drums, and a commanding vocal presence by Damian Ritual, making for a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh. Speaking about vocals, there is a definite nod to a classic heavy metal heroes such as Paul Di’Anno, Ronnie James Dio and Steve Grimmett. Damian’s homage to the metal greats like the aforementioned adds to the record’s authentic traditional metal atmosphere.

Musically, Rogue Angels is tight and focused, moving away from the psychedelic meandering of their early work toward concise, energetic tracks that demand attention. The opening track, “Lost Among the Fold,” sets a dark and powerful foundation, while the title track “Rogue Angels” features crunchy guitars and a soaring chorus suitable for live performances. “Crusaders” brings a gallant, hard rock energy, evoking tales of battle and brotherhood. The penultimate track “Exodus” stands out with a slower, doom tempo and a magical final two minutes that elevate the album’s emotional impact. The closing piece “Aftermath” serves as a haunting epilogue with discordant sounds and fading strings, adding to the album’s epic narrative arc.

The album’s presentation is completed with striking cover art by Marie-Pier Lapointe, which visually captures the album’s sharp and deadly intent.

This record is recommended for fans of classic and progressive heavy metal seeking a modern yet reverent metal album with depth and epic flair.
