Raw almost primitive Speed Heavy is my cup of tea (among many others) and Steel Inferno can deliver excellent high quality a mixture of Overkill and Agent Steel inspired Heavy Metal with many Thrash elements given with strong doses of underground vibes. The band hails from Copenhagen, Denmark. Members are originally from France, Poland and Denmark (also had a guitarist Patrick Thomsen Mantzouridis from Greece until 2016) and the quintet was established in 2012. There’s so much energy, passion, enthusiasm and power to their songs that you just can’t just stand with apathy as the record spins. 11 strong compositions, simple but with a lot of traditional Heavy Metal parts, while sometimes you can hear a Jag Panzer feeling and a US Power barrage of riffs. ‘Evil Reign’ is their 3rd full length effort following ‘Aesthetics of Decay’ (2016) and ‘…and the Earth Stood Still’ (2020). Their new singer Chris Rostoff (replacing Karen Collatz Christensen) is like hearing Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth of Overkill fame singing in ‘Feel The Fire’ or ‘Taking Over’ or jamming on Exciter or Helstar songs; so nostalgic that old school fans will love his hint and raspy voice. Full speed ahead, straight-forward attack (mid-paced album closer ‘Claws of Death’), with a plethora of riffs, pummeling drums and rough production (made in Angioni Studios by Marco Angioni that have worked also with Tygers Of Pan Tang and Iron Fire), that fits so well with the attitude of their sound, ‘Evil Reign’ is an entertaining, well-crafted album that features some songs that many 80’s big names of Accept-like or Speed Metal, would kill to have been written by them, such as ‘Siren Of The Air’, ‘No Escape’ ‘First Strike’, ‘Queen’ and the aforementioned closer ‘Claws of Death’.
