Punch in the face! We already knew what Stheno’s music was like after their magnificent E.P. ‘Damnation is Forever’ (2014) and the two splits (with Grassroll and World Downfall), but now we have their first full-length to feed our hunger for pure well-played grindcore!
Thirteen tracks of violence that surpass all expectations; not because of our low expectations from the band to begin with, but because grindcore is a genre almost impossible to progress in. Stheno breaks the rules. The epic rhythm of the marching hymn ‘Poisoned Tears of The Blessed (Ireland 1972)’ is an obvious example of what we are talking about. ‘Hail Nothing’ has these crusty riffs available for endless mosh. ‘Let the Mask Slip’ could make Napalm Death very proud. ‘Into Neverending Struggle’ has a malevolent leading melodic riff that reminds of Vader. ‘Between Man and God’ is insane. Every single song has something special. All things considered, ‘Liberty Crawls in Waste’ contains influences from bands like Terrorizer, Napalm Death, Hateplow, Insect Warfare and even Repulsion. Mix all the above influences, and you can imagine of what is happening in this colossal release. The sound production is good and the artwork is beautiful, making the final result even more attractive.
If you are into this sound or you want to listen to something representative of what pure grindcore is about, don’t hesitate to give a chance to Stheno.
