Genre: Heavy/Speed Metal
Country: Canada
Label: Napalm Records
Year: 2014

The 3rd full length album of the Canadian metallers is here to break necks and empty all the beers in your fridge! The fact that they released so much stuff in a short time (one ep and three albums in five years) shows the amount of energy the band has and their love for heavy metal music. The thing is they have a good streak to this point, with ‘City Of Gold’ being their best effort to this day.

The album contains all the ingredients of a good heavy metal album. First and most important it has great, memorable compositions, the band is getting better in terms of song-writing. It has power, speed, aggression, loud guitars, screaming solos and melodies that stuck in your head. Plus ideal production from Fredrik Nordström and great artwork.

The album opens with ‘Underground’ and the heavy/speed metallic fury getting out of the speakers blasts you away. ‘City Of Gold’ and ‘Start Again’ continues in a more classic metal vibe reducing the speed, highlighting the great guitar melodies and one of the best classic metal voices of today, that of Dan Cleary! ‘Bad Decisions’ throws its own party in the middle of the album. Together with ‘All I want’ they are hard rockin’ anthems different from the rest songs of the album but still great tunes for partying hard. The album continues with speed metal demons such as ‘Crossroads, ‘All for One’, ‘Second Attack’ and ‘Rise Up’. The album closing song ‘Taken By Time’ is together with the first three the best songs in the album. With a ‘Running Wild’ like intro it evolves into a full metal attack where both speed and melody contribute to the creation of a perfect heavy metal song! For those who want more the digipack version of the album contains four bonus tracks.

Striker studied well their fellow Canadians Exciter and Anvil as well the American heavy/speed of the 80’s (Savage Grace) and they are now rising up to be one of the best bands of the genre today.

Speed metal fans who like their songs with lots of melodies and traditional metal solos will find their heaven right here. This is a very good third effort but I believe we haven’t seen anything from these mad Canadians yet. Open a beer and play it loud after all as singer Dan Cleary says ‘It’s about Heavy Metal and a good time’.
