It is not so common to release a studio album and after only two months to follow with another 6 songs EP. But Substratum just did it! In 23 of March the Seattle, WA’s traditional metal warriors delivered a brand new EP entitled ‘Stratosphere’, just a couple of months after their sophomore studio album ‘Permission to Rock’ hit the stores. I guess the band didn’t want to waste any more time. To refresh your memory the band formed in December of 2013. Their first effort was a three-song demo in the summer of 2016, followed by a self-titled debut album on Swords & Chains Records. The spring of 2017 saw the release of the three-song Rough Rider demo while a split 10″ with Skelator was out the same summer. Around that same time, both of the group’s demos were picked up by Divebomb Records for inclusion on Vol. 4 of their burgeoning Masters of Metal compilation series, which brings us to the present…The band’s current lineup, is like a certainly well oiled machine and play solid traditional U.S. Metal. If you love the Chastain, Leather Leonne’s voice, Judas Priest, Zed Yago and 80’s guitar riffing, you got a new friend waiting you in the corner. ‘Stratosphere’ is 35-minute long, featuring a cover on ‘Cast My Speel’ originally performed by N.W.O.B.H.M. cult band Satanic Rites, is already out via Divebomb Records, complete with an eight-page booklet featuring cover art by Starhammer Industries that brings in mind Foreigner, Asia and Uriah Heep artwork covers, at least to me…

Surrealism : Pure psychic automatism, by which one proposes to express, either verbally, in writing, or by any other manner, the real functioning of thought. Dictation of thought in the absence of all control exercised by reason, outside of all aesthetic and moral preoccupation. Surrealism is based on the belief in the superior reality of certain forms of previously neglected associations, in the omnipotence of dream, in the disinterested play of thought. It tends to ruin once and for all other psychic mechanisms and to substitute itself for them in solving all the principal problems of life.
