Many times an unpleasant fact that marks our lives becomes a source of inspiration and creativity, more often with beneficial results. That’s also the case for Sylosis, who come from Reading, England. After the accident they had in 2013 on their US tour, along with Trivium and DevilDriver, having escaped the worst, they composed their best album, according to themselves (what a cliché answer every band gives when releasing a new record). I have no other choice but to agree with them, since I had no prior acquaintance with their music, meaning I can judge objectively.
The truth is that we are dealing with a very good album, intense, that it is hard to classify it in a genre, as its base is in modern thrash/death metal or metalcore if you prefer, tunes close to bands like Trivium, DevilDriver, Revocation, Killswitch Engage, etc. There is diversity in their music, with aggressive, fast music and sometimes progressive and melodic tunes with epic choruses and godlike tracks as the titletrack, “Leech”, “Indoctrinated”, “Mercy” and “Quiescent” to be the nine-minute calm after the storm. There are two bonus tracks on the limited edition release, one of them being a cover to Smashing Pumpkins (‘Zero’). Indifferent as I was and I always will be infifferent with Smashing Pumpkins.
Produced by Josh Middleton (voice/guitar), with help from Scott Atkins and mastering by Acle Kahney of Tesseract. The drums were recorded from their original drummer Rob Callard, before being replaced from Ali Richardson (Bleed Within). If nothing else, they came back strong with a lot of energy, mood and not sleeping under the mandrake.
