Temisto is a new band coming from Stockholm, Sweden, and they have just released their self-titled album through Pulverised Records, a label that has released many great albums from great bands over the years (Awe, Master, Interment, Under the Church, Morbus Chron ect.). The music of Temisto is progressive, but not in the usual way: based on death metal forms but through a black metal veil and a dark atmosphere, the band is presenting their music in a rather uncommon way. Looking for influences, we could say Atheist or Satyricon. Although Temisto’s music is not common, I still don’t believe it has fulfilled its purpose. A simple listener would probably get confused, even though some parts are magnificent – such as the outro to “Abyssal Depths”. The band shows great potential and their stuff is really ambitious; however, there are no memorable moments in the album – something they should check in their next strike. The instrumental songs, “The Ritual” and “Seance” are my personal favorites, with their psychedelic essence.
Not bad at all, but really unusual. I am sure the next album will be glorious.
