Temple of Void – Summoning The Slayer

Published:

Genre: Doom/Death
Country: U.S.A.
Label: Relapse Records
Year: 2022

Hailing from Detroit, U.S.A., Temple of Void return with a new album two years after “The World That Was”, which was their 3rd crucial studio full length; an effort that despite some great ideas in fact failed to make the breakthrough for the band. Nevertheless still the band didn’t felt disappointment and now with their debut on Relapse, a bigger label truth be told than Shadow Kingdom Records and more experienced in extreme music, seem ready to conquer the world.  The Detroit quintet—featuring Alex Awn (guitars), Don Durr (guitars), Mike Erdody (vocals), Jason Pearce (drums), and Brent Satterly (bass) base their music on atmosphere. Wisely they create a murky, dark, melancholic environment in order to drag their listener to their slow burning doom/death which adores 90’s British Doom but also reflects melodies decorated with monolithic rhythm section and chugging riffs. Lyrically, Summoning the Slayer eschews commonplace horror tropes with a deeper, broader psychological discussion of the self. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Sadistic Ritual, etc.), “Summoning the Slayer” is a complete suggestion for all those who prefer their Doom/Death creepy, sludgy in parts, emotional, artistic and full of imagination. Highlights: “Behind the Eye”, “Deathtouch”, “Hex Curse” and “The Transcending Horror”. Plus the excellent experimental closer in the veins of Moody Blues with its ‘70s rock/singer-songwriter motifs “Dissolution”.

“Summoning the Slayer” released June 3rd, 2022 via Relapse Records.
