The Howling Void (THV) is one-man band (multi-instrumentalist Ryan) and he’s coming from USA (Canadian in origin). THV formed in 2007 and, ‘till now, has released four full-length albums and “Runa” (October 2014) which is the only long-length mini-album of the band.
“Runa” makes the difference of Ryan’s past recordings because it’s more “enjoyable” with less funeral and oppressive feelings, containing, at the same time, rhythms in the idea of epic and tribal (maybe) conditions. The slow motion of doom metal has been left behind (in some way) but still quite a few “doom” elements stay clear. Ryan offers fastest parts in this release and follows paths closer to classical viking-folk metal. You don’t have to search for so many lyrics because there aren’t; just some lines in all three songs. These verses are expressed through a mix of clear, whispered and painful vocals.
Generally, THV try to turn page to the old and now Ryan would like to fight with a new beginning. Is it really a fresh good era for him or just a small natural break?
