Genre: Heavy Metal/Melodic Power Metal
Label: Scarlet Records
I really hate the use of sub genres especially the term power metal. It confuses only and sometimes gives a wrong leading to the listener on what to expect from an album or a band. Anyway the new studio album from greek The Silent Rage has no problem to move from one sub genre to another as its pure Heavy Metal foundations responses from melodic power to groovy heavy/thrash and everything in between. While you can hear where they drove their inspiration from and their influences the band delivers an excellent amalgam of qualitative songs filtered perfectly and given with strong doses of personality something really important if you want to shine among so many releases that pop up every day from underground or bigger names.
The quintet features 5 strong units that combine a well oiled jaw machine that works like a sonic battering ram. The production is modern and crystal clear and all instruments are audible and their music will bring in mind Painkiller and a mixture of old school Savatage and the best moments from 90’s Teutonic bands like Rage, Heaven’s Gate and Helloween (in their heaviest moments).
The guitar lines (Siglidis-Sarbanis) full of blistering riffs, melodic parts and amazing solos are definitely their strong card but I think that their vocalist (Rinakakis) is also another one. Especially when you hear the guests Stu Block on ‘Another Fallen Dreamland’ and Harry Conklin on ‘Scarlet Dawn’ you see clearly how great performer he is. Heavy/Power at its best ‘Nuances of Life’ should be the album that will make them bigger and make more people start searching for their work.
Highlights on this balanced and full of variety album: ‘Carve Your Rage’, ‘Crows Fly Back’, ‘Exhaling Fear’ and ‘Ghost Of A Wayward God’, and definitely the emotional closer ‘Black Monday’ (co-written with Bob Katsionis), which is an ode/tribute for the 103 dead people in Mati, Athens in 2018 where fire burst in the near Marathon town and destroyed the place and its ashes put a whole country in sorrow…
The Silent Rage ‘Nuances of Life’ was released on May 26th via Scarlet Records.
