The Temple release live + The Sabbath Stones (A tribute to Black Sabbath), March 25 2016 @Eightball Club, Thessaloniki

Since the 25th of March is a national holiday, the time seemed right for a nice excursion. We invaded Thessaloniki, as Krisis Productions once again emptied our pockets with the utterly tantalizing gigs they booked. So, the day before the Dutch Death Metal masters Asphyx took the stage, the new heroes of Doom, the Thessalonikians The Temple organized a live presentation of their debut album entitled “Forevermourn”.

The gig started with a Black Sabbath tribute and admittedly a very good band, The Sabbath Stones. Having already seen many tribute bands – especially tribute to Sabbath – now, I can safely say that this is one of the best Greek tribute bands, as their performance was a lengthy one and they didn’t tire us. The band warmed up successfully the crowd, while the choices of tracks were thoroughly made – avoiding the classic portions of 80% Ozzy and just 20% Dio tracks. In fact, the band covered with success the track “Disturbing the Priest” from the “Born Again” album and just for that, the band deserves to be congratulated.

The venue’s upper floor was crowded when The Temple took over the stage. The atmosphere was cozy and friendly as friends of the band came to support the gig from various parts of Greece, showing unprecedented support to a new band of the scene. However, this didn’t affect the members of the band, who played from the bottom of their souls, even though they seemed anxious at first. This could be justified by the sound quality of the vocals, although as the gig kept going, the sound was equally getting better. The sound in general wasn’t perfect; however it was at least clear and bulky, as it’s required by a band of this genre.

The band’s setlist was naturally based on the tracks of “Forevermourn” and to my surprise I witnessed that the tracks are equally excellent, comparing the live to the studio performance. It was a great performance that left us with promises of even greater stuff, although the band’s theatricality/onstage presence need to be taken care of a bit. Besides, that’s what this particular genre advocates. The Temple left the stage 70 minutes later (or something like that – I lost track of time after those beers I had) leaving the crowd sweaty and with a huge smile on its face. Great moments!
