Thlipsis are a new force in Greek Black Metal and from 2021 until now they have been very active. “Servants of Apathy” is a 3 track EP and continues in the same philosophy that has built the band since its inception. There are two main axes which impress here, which are more than enough to consider their effort complete. The first of course is the band’s music itself. They manage to combine the Scandinavian roughness with the Greek (Black Metal) melody, but the result remains tight and not at all disorientated. But they don’t stop here as for the more observant, there are even crust punk spots as well as solos closer to classic Heavy Metal than Black Metal. Of course, all of this goes through Thlipsis’ personal sensorium and shapes their sound.The second axis is the lyrical content. From the title of the EP, which is also the opening track, those who remain indifferent to the socio-political events, silently accepting the injustice, are blasted. “Lament of a Dying Land” is about the Palestinian people and their struggles that continue unabated to this day.The use of the Greek language is something that gains ground over the years, so it should no longer impress us as much as it used to. I also have the feeling that a clearer and more targeted description of images and situations can be made in each mother language. We should mention also the stunning cover art. They choose to escape from the typical black and white and they are justified since the light is what makes the difference in the eye of the listener.
